Next Generation Defibrillators

Accelerating the delivery of lifesaving technology to market, enabling faster access to critical innovations that improve patient outcomes.

Next Generation Defibrillators

A healthcare company partnered with us to develop a next-gen defibrillator that’s portable, user-friendly, lightweight, faster to recharge, and suitable for all ages - designed to save lives when seconds count and ready to accelerate market growth.

Customer Profile

A global leader in medical technologies, the customer specializes in life-saving devices used in clinical and emergency environments. Their focus is on innovating accessible, user-friendly solutions for first responders, hospitals, and public safety applications worldwide.

Challenge

The customer aimed to develop a next-generation defibrillator that is faster, lighter, and more intuitive than previous models. The device needed to cater to both basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS) personnel, requiring adherence to the highest design and regulatory standards.

The challenge was to meet these requirements while also accelerating time to market—normally a four-year process for such a critical, Class III medical device. The goal was to bring the product to market in under four years, despite the complexity and stringent certification needed.

Solution Summary

We used our OMAP3530 SoM-LV to deliver a robust, long-lifecycle embedded platform that enabled fast development, FDA compliance, and seamless integration with Green Hills Integrity RTOS.

Solution

To meet the aggressive timeline, our team provided expertise in electrical and software engineering, using our OMAP3530 SoM to accelerate development. The SoM supported features like Ethernet, USB power management, I2C bus, and controllers for LCD displays.

By using our SoM, the company could begin software testing early, even before the hardware was finalized, ensuring faster development. We supported the team through the entire lifecycle, including hardware design, software verification, and compliance with ISO 13485.

Our role extended to implementing Agile software development methods, helping optimize the system's software, and assisting in the creation of the therapy software and system’s incident recorder.

Result

With our assistance, the system was delivered months ahead of schedule, helping the customer meet their market demands faster while ensuring the device met all medical standards. The successful launch enabled the company to introduce an advanced, next-gen defibrillator to the healthcare market.
