TI App Platform

Enabling efficient software application development by providing tools, frameworks, and support to accelerate innovation and streamline processes.

TI App Platform

The Zoom™ OMAP34x-II Mobile Development Platform (MDP) delivers all the tools mobile developers need to bring new applications to market fast. Our team’s expertise in System on Modules, product design, and development, combined with TI’s advanced processors, helped accelerate software development for smartphones and mobile Internet devices (MIDs).

Customer Profile

Texas Instruments is a global semiconductor company that designs and manufactures analog and embedded processing chips. For this project, they partnered with our team to launch a next-generation mobile development platform for smartphone and MID application development.

Challenge

Texas Instruments needed to bring the Zoom™ OMAP34x-II MDP to market in under six months—a timeline that demanded precise planning, seamless communication, and integrated product development. The platform had to incorporate advanced features like a touchscreen, keypad, and wireless connectivity while meeting high expectations for design, usability, and performance.

With little margin for error, they chose to collaborate with our team for an end-to-end product realization solution. We were responsible for managing internal coordination, supplier communication, and parallel development of mechanical, electrical, and software systems to ensure a cohesive and high-quality result. The challenge was to develop, refine, and deliver the platform without delay.

Solution Summary

Our team delivered a fully integrated design-to-manufacturing solution, coordinating across disciplines to meet Texas Instruments’ timeline for a successful MDP launch.

Solution

Rapid development required close coordination across product design, engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing teams. Our experts explored layout options optimized for developers, assessing user, mechanical, and electrical factors in real time. After finalizing a compelling design, we moved quickly to develop the touchscreen and alphanumeric keypad in parallel.

Mechanical teams prepared production tooling while electrical engineers refined the board layout. Databases were frequently translated into physical prototypes to test component fit, tolerances, and user interface ergonomics. As testing validated each design element, our NPI team seamlessly transitioned the product to full-scale manufacturing. We managed all communication with Texas Instruments and our suppliers to ensure alignment at every stage.

This collaborative and agile process enabled us to exceed expectations and deliver a complete solution on time—ready for the global stage at Mobile World Congress.

Result

The Zoom™ OMAP34x-II MDP launched on time at Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, showcasing advanced features including TI’s OMAP3430 processor, 4.1” touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, stereo audio, and more. The platform raised the bar for MIDs and smartphones. Our team’s ability to unite low-power embedded performance with multimedia-rich functionality demonstrated our full-spectrum product realization capabilities in partnership with Texas Instruments.
